Just before Christmas, I finished work on the colors for this drawing:

After having done the solid color blocks, shading, a subtle orangey-yellow gradient in the sky and in the water’s reflection, and then a touch of airbrush glow on the sun and its reflection, I exported the image from my tablet and opened it in the editing software GIMP on my PC, where I added a film grain effect and a touch of vignette to add a bit of additional character and a slightly photographic feel to the picture. I’m happy with the color palette on this picture, which is always something I second-guess with these projects. I think it ended up reflecting the colors of the original scene it was based on, but with a heightened, saturated comic book feel.
As always, I want to spend more time with my art, doodling in my sketchbook, coming up with ideas, etc. And as always, I’m forever finding ways to procrastinate this. Always forgetting the satisfaction that it gives me to put pencil or pen to paper. I really just need to start consistently planning some time and then following through. Momentum is important, but if you don’t have the momentum yet sometimes you have to get out and push.
